In January of 1991, the first formal Robert Burns dinner was held on the campus of Skagit Valley College, in Mount Vernon, WA.  The ensuing years have witnessed gatherings large and small - always featuring the wonderful music and dance of Scotland.  We're very pleased this year to offer a lineup of great talent including a mini pipe-band of the Dowco/Triumph Street Pipe Band in Vancouver.  They'll give us a performance of the rousing favorites, some solo performances, and just overall great Scottish pipe band music from one of the top Pipe Bands in North America.

The band will also play for a by the Clan Heather Dancers, featuring Scottish Highland dances from Burns County and all over Scotland.  You'll have the chance to hear some of the famous prose by Robert Burns, including the "To a Haggis" poem which is always performed as the Haggis is piped into the hall!  This is a fun night, with great music and dance, and including a wonderful traditional meal, and a wee dram o single malt whisky, if you are thus inclined!

Tickets are only $60, or an entire table for 8 may be purchased for the discounted price of $400.  You can order tickets online below, or call us at 360-416-4934 or toll free at 1-888-416-4934 to order tickets.  The event will sell out, so we encourage you to order tickets early!

Robert Burns, the Scottish national bard, is one of the best-loved poets of all time. A brilliant satirist who rebelled against the social order, Burns decried any religious thought that condoned inhumanity. He was born into a poor tenant farming family on January 25, 1759 in a cotter’s cottage in Alloway near Ayr, Scotland.

Some of his best-known works include:

  •      Auld Lang Syne
  •      My love is like a Red, Red Rose
  •      Tam o’Shanter
  •      To a Mouse

Much of Burns’ work was written in broad Scot’s dialect, which although endears him to Scots the world over, may also somewhat limit his audience. In his short life of some 37 years, he also collected and cataloged many folk songs from around Scotland. Every year, Scots and fans of Robert Burns’ work around the globe gather in January for a traditional Scottish meal to celebrate the memory of one of Scotland great sons. Poems are read, toasts given and lively music and dance add to the event.
