Due
to Washington State liquor control laws, this fund-raising event
is not open to the general public, but is by invitation only. If
you would like to find out more about the invitation list, please
contact Skye Richendrfer directly
or call 360-416-4934. This program is a fundraising activity for
the Celtic Arts Foundation, and features a traditional Scottish
meal, and an incredible selection of fine Scotch Whiskies.
For centuries Scottish families (clans) have distilled whisky in
much the same manner. The word whisky itself comes from the ancient
Gaelic "Uisge Breatha" meaning the "water of life." The carefully
guarded distilling procedures have been passed from one generation
to the next, and to this day the methods and ingredients remain
much the same. Barley, water and peat are used to create the "pot-still"
or unblended Scotch whisky.
There are four distinct types or groupings of "single malt" or
"unblended" Scotches: Highland malts, Lowland malts, Islay malts,
and Speyside malts. The various flavors are geographically specific
and quite distinguishable one from the next. At this event, several
whiskies will be tasted from all of these regions, and you'll learn
about tasting techniques, the distilling process, and even something
about the history and geography of Scotland!
From out of town? Please consider staying overnight at the Best
Western CottonTree Inn. Special discount rates of approximately
20% are being provided for guests attending the Scotch-tasting.
Please contact them directly: http://www.bwcottontreeinn.com/mtvernon
and make sure to tell them you get the Scotch-tasting discount!
We especially appreciate the generous informational and educational
support provided by US Concepts LLC, agents for Diageo North America.
